Ian Jepson made this owl/robot for this week’s Discotheque at The Assembly feat. Sibot & Toyota.
Jaco Haasbroek just carries on and on, but we will not complain about these Untamed Youth posters. Ever.
We were waiting for an epic poster to kick Social Contract off this year. Then YOH! and naasEvents decided to create a 7 poster series for one event with a super sick lineup. Stoked. The facebook event here

Chris Slabber shows us some of the process work for the latest Synergy poster. Pretty epic. The logo was designed by Bruno Morphet.
Hope you guys have fun this weekend.

Here’s a few tracks to listen to. We’ll be jamming to them at Synergy.
This looks like such a rad initiative and the poster blew me away so we just had to feature it, even though not being directly music related. Go to the Constructus website to learn more about the event, today is the last day to sign up, so get there now.
Poster credits as follows: Karabo Makenna, Hayley De Vantier, Batandwa Alperstein, Bee Diamondhead, Kope|Figgins for The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town)
I am a bit tied up at the moment, therefore the bloggers silence. We will have another quiet week and then back to normal.
To say sorry, here’s two gems, Louis Minnaar for Bittereinder and Bruno Morphet for Fiction Fridays.

Simon Berndt is on a roll in terms of posters, and this time you lucky guys and gals are able to buy these as screenprints. They will be sold for R80 each or both for R150 on the night. The lineup is also super impressive.
As always, click the posters for the facebook event.
BrentBlack Studios for the latest Park Acoustics coming up this Sunday with Yo Grapes, Captain Stu, Napalma, Vana & the Oh So Serious and Albert Frost.
Loving this poster for Desmond & the Tutus. Cats and lazerbeams is a winning combo.
You will certainly be able to spot Michael dos Ramos as the designer. The colours and illustration is trademark stuff.
Ben Rauch is setting up the next Rebel Alliance and once again calling for submissions. Get involved. They will be showing the best ones at The Bioscope.
Another pretty poster by Louis Minnaar for the awesome Bittereinder. Getting excited for ‘DieDinkDansMasjien’ being released soon. Promo clip below.
This is not the first time we see Mondrian inspired work from Jaco Haasbroek, but you wont see us complaining.
We missed this poster by Bruno Morphet and liked it so much we had to feature it. This was for last weeks Fiction Fridays.
Bittereinder and The Frown designed by Louis Minnaar. I might start crying. Why is this in Pretoria and why can I not teleport yet?
The Untamed Youth logo has travelled quite a bit this season thanks to Jaco Haasbroek. Also, this weeks UY is free.
The Home Movie Factory is coming to South Africa and you are asked to Swede your favourite movie for the next Rebel Alliance.
If you have loved ‘Be Kind Rewind’ I am sure you would love to get involved in the art of Sweding your own movie, and then have it screened at the next Rebel Alliance. How super awesome. Here is Ben’s invite to get involved.
And if these posters aren’t enough to get you going, the poster for ‘Rebel Alliance: Need For Swede’ is below. Please check out the event here for detailed instructions and more info.
The man is unstoppable. Bruno Morphet is churning out more posters than anyone locally at the moment.
Another great poster by Matthew Pullen for what is set to be a great gig.
Very pretty poster by Mary-Anne Hampton for the upcoming Dear Reader tour. They are playing every major city in South Africa so try and get to one of the shows.
Just saw this little gem on the interweb by Hanno van Zyl and had to share it before we start our weekend.
MK is doing a little tour in Cape Town and it would be worth your while popping in to one of the shows they are hosting. They will be recording the live shows from the various locations, so get yourself on TV.
Hanno Van Zyl made the Beautiful Sons of Settlers poster, and the second poster is just to keep you up to date with the rest of the events up MK’s sleeves.
The posters for Yes Sir! Mister Machine always blows my mind. Consistently cool no matter who designs the flyer.
This time around we have Franco Fernandes taking hold of design and doing another great job of it. If you haven’t yet seen the music video for Cold Rush Song yet, watch it here. Otherwise we will see you in the pit?
The latest gory poster by Michael dos Ramos for Uber Cool Events. What else do you do on Friday the 13th?
Everybody reading/looking through this blog knows I am a huge Bittereinder fan. They just released this trailer for the new album dropping pretty soon and I am going to explode with excitement.
For those of you in Bloemfontein this weekend, get ready. Bittereinder will be playing at the Vryfees. Louis Minnaar worked his magic on both the flyer below and teaser video above.
Marchand once again works his magic for Van Coke Kartel as they settle into their winter tour. They will play all the big venues including a free show at the new Arcade Empire.
Simon Berndt (One Horse Town) worked on the Live Charge album from The Stella’s and it really looks good. Catch them on the tour, they will be in Durban this weekend. Hopefully we will have some pics of the album artwork soon.
Baden Moir made this disturbing but super awesome poster for Music Without Borders and Beast is playing, together with The Pits and Kombat Fudge. It is definitely worth checking out.
It’s pretty cold and it looks like Jaco Haasbroek knitted a blanket for you Jozi folk. Join in the Untamed Youth fun at Great Dane.
Here is a larger image of the Fiction Fridays poster no 4 by Bruno Morphet. It forms part of the #FictionIcons range and they are giving away the whole set. See details for the competition here.
Another epic poster by Baden Moir showing the great contrast of the African landscapes, elephants and skylines. Awesome.
Marchand again. This gig is a charity event raising funds for the JAG Foundation, which in turn will contribute to entry for two hopeful Cape Epic cyclists. Rather them than me.
Loving this poster by Baden Moir. Each ‘issue’ will be a comic book cover featuring the artists. Wow.
Bruno Morphet again, and I bet you can’t guess the icon in this poster. If you can i’m guessing you are old like me.
This is what I’m looking forward to most this week. What might be the weirdest but funnest lineup I have seen in a while.
Karl Schulschenk should be blamed for the super rad pixel poster.
Bateleur is doing a quick tour in support of their new EP ‘Cargo Cults’. Catch them at Zula in Cape Town, Silverton Rock Shack in Pretoria and Kitchener’s in Joburg.
The poster by Simon Pocock is pretty rad, and has the wooden disc that houses the EP on it.
I have never seen a release this spectacular before. There will be 20 limited edition, vinyl sized disks designed by Bison, Stuart Ziegler, Givan Lotz, Sebastian Borchenhagen and Dale Lawrence. They will be auctioned off pretty soon, but the smaller pocket sized EP disc will be on sale on all of these nights. That is something special.

Lovely poster from Peachfish for what looks like a mighty fine Sunday gig. Make sure to attend this one.
Inanimate Object is the latest exhibition of illustrations by Gerhard Human, hosted by Searle Street Post in Woodstock and Masters and Savant.
I just love this poster. The illustrations will be printed on archival paper and presented as limited editions of only 30.
As always click the poster to go to the facebook event.
I stumbled onto this beautiful poster last week and was blown away with the illustration and work that went into this. The illustration was done by Ree Treweek and the typography by Thea Nicole De Klerk. The benefit gig for Flying Needle Project at Mercury is bound to be a hit, and you are supporting a good cause.
This is rather exciting. Bruno Morphet released the first of a the Fiction Icons poster series.
The series will include characters from fiction and popular culture. The fun bit would be to identify the character, which could potentially be quite tricky, depending on which era you grew up in. Eventually these will be released as limited edition prints.
This one should not be too difficult, who will guess it first?
Now for my little rant. Why do we not see more of these initiatives? Clubs and artists all realise that an eye catching poster draws attention to the event, but for some reason most bands and clubs do not put any effort into it. There were times when I went to a gig solely because of the poster, and I am certainly not the only one. I do realise that it costs money to pay a designer to make the poster for you, but without marketing your event no one will pitch anyway, so drop the few hundred that most willing designers ask. There is a whole list of them to your right, and I put them there for a reason. Use it.
I have so much respect for the clubs, bands, DJ’s and designers who spend money and time on these beautiful pieces of art. So much so that I spend many hours on the internet searching for the next awesome gig poster to feature. Some weeks it is hard to find more than 3 decent posters in the whole country. It seems crazy but true.
Make me happy please. In turn it might change your next events turnout. Who knows?
Better late than never, here is the poster for the show tonight. Also make sure to go see Andre Pereira’s brand new website, it’s fresh.
It has been a while, but luckily for us Mary-Anne Hampton made this poster for Cake or Death with the Anti Retro Vinyls playing on the night.
Are you ready for The Psychedelic Sounds of The Sleepers, Black Moscow & Wild Eastern Arches at Mercury tonight. And an Adam Hill poster to top it all off.
This is too cool, although I don’t know how you would display it. Framing it, you would lose the playful effect and bottom level details but with only 75 made I won’t leave it laying around for people to play with.
This is obviously not South African but I could not let it slide by without showing you the process video, but please go to this website to slide the posters over each other and get the full effect.
The bottom black poster is etched out of wood and then letterpressed, the second white layer and the final blue layer is lasercut and together they create this poster. Awesome.
Good work again by BrentBlack Studios and a very good gig to attend by the looks of the lineup.
Our very own Chris Slabber should do more gig posters, so when he does I smile from ear to ear.
Quite a busy week again, so keep an eye out. Doktrine loves a party, especially if it’s on a Thursday at Arcade Empire.
Michael Dos Ramos was busy this past few weeks with a few great gig posters, and here’s another one.
Ben Rausch made this trippy poster for Through The Looking Glass happening tonight. Great bands, art exhibition, live painting and more.
Christi du Toit (Crunch Art) works with RubaDub once again, this time being their second birthday. A double sided flyer with really fun illustration grabs my attention.
The Untamed Youth parties at Fiction has started and that means weekly awesome work from Jaco Haasbroek. Here’s the first one.
Wish we could be at Splashy Fen this year, but at least we have this cool poster by Michael dos Ramos for the Dance Valley at Splashy.
The River is opening tonight at Salon91 in Kloof Street, Cape Town. A collaborative visual narrative by Louis Minnaar and Maaike Bakker, with words by Jaco Van Der Merwe. Sounds epic.
Jarryd Kin added these two “posters’ to the Dukes Burgers Rock Menu featured here a while back. Pretty cool if you ask me.

If you felt like following these guys around the country, now is your chance. Artwork by Simon Berndt.
Ram Jam is back and again Rouleaux rips the Rock ‘n Roll out for the poster. The previous nights was sweaty and fun so be sure to make it this Friday.
When this exhibition was launched in Joburg and Durban without a Cape Town event yet, I was gutted. Luckily the guys from WorkingClass got the finer details sorted and tomorrow night is the big night.
The Date has changed due to possible weather conditions, so make a note of it happening Wednesday 28 March at aStore in Kloof Street. Check the event by clicking the poster.
Bruno Morphet made this beautiful series of posters for ToyToy and We Are The Noise, the latest of these is for Alex Smoke playing Friday night. Be there.
I get very excited when two great forces meet and here we have it, Simon Berndt and The Great Apes. The Apes has been a threatening force in Cape Town for a while now and the countrywide tour starts soon, but (C)Ape Town will be assaulted first.
I think Cape Town has been waiting for this for a while and finally Fiction is ready. Andrew Ringrose pulls the coffin from the grave and introduces the first night of mayhem with.

Tim Lester made this for Bicycle Thief. It’s their album launch, and the line-up looks great.
Simon Berndt (One Horse Town) made this poster for the Scrapyard party happening at The Assembly tonight (Tuesday). As is the case with most awesome gig posters, choosing which is better (the line up or poster) is insanely difficult.
Another great poster by TwoShoes design for The Flamjangled Tea Party, and that lineup looks fantastic!
Ogilvy approached Says Who to work on gig posters for Dukes Burgers Rock Menu. The end product is amazing, now if only Dukes would come to Cape Town we could see it in person.

I love what the guys from WorkingClass has done here. Be sure to support this great exhibition starting in Durban and then off to Joburg, with talks in progress for Cape Town.
Click the posters to go to the facebook events pages.
As part of the Design Indaba Youth series of workshops Jarryd Kin presents a poster workshop on the 4th of March. We will also feature the posters right here. So exciting.
wwwiT Februarie made this interesting poster for the We Like Bass party happening over the weekend. Pop in.
Michael Dos Ramos created this intense comic book cover as the poster for It Came From The Jungle. Looks so rad, and would love to see more of this type of work.
Adam Hill once again, this time for Wildfire and Sailor Jerry. The gig is set to be a winner considering all the previous Sailor Jerrry organised events
The second poster has been printed on A2 art paper in a very limited run, I would try and get my hands on a copy. Check out the facebook event for more info by clicking the posters.
Durban based blog ‘Durban is Yours‘ is having an event this weekend and it looks awesome. Love the poster by Luke Smith too.
Very nice poster by Chris Slabber (our creative force) made for We Set Sail’s upcoming release. How awesome?
Have you seen that heading? Forget about the great line-ups this week, we get the mighty Kronk with his first gig poster in about a year, Andrew Ringrose as usual on the Discotheque poster and the SYNW combo of Adriaan Louw and Graham Kennedy,
I’ll leave you to it, click the posters to go to the facebook events, and pick that jaw up from the floor please.
If you are looking for a pre-Valentine’s Day event, look no further. Rouleaux van der Merwe made a wonderful minimal poster for the gig at The Waiting Room with Mister and Misread and The Red Robins.
An epic Hip Hop party with a stellar cast blows into Zula this weekend. Great poster by Papercut Killer to get you excited.
Andrew Ringrose blows us out of the water every time he rips one of these Discotheque posters. Love it.
Christi du Toit (Crunch Illustration & Design) made this cool illustration for the RubaDub event hapening at Mercury on Saturday, and it should be a killer.
Every time Fiddle East rolls out their next event, you can feel the buzz surrounding it. Once again TwoShoes Design created the poster and the lineup is looks sick.
The latest Forget About Friday poster by Doktrine, and the lineup is looking sick. This is the Thursday party you do not want to miss.
Just My Type is an Typography exhibition kicking off tonight at YoursTruly featuring work by One Horse Town, Jason De Villiers and Ben Johnston.
It should be a must for all Typeheads out there.
How do you like this poster for a School Night party? Doktrine doing what they do best, awesome illustrations of crazy characters.
Bruce Mackay has been a favourite of mine for a while now, so we are glad to see that Wolves is hosting this exhibition. His lino work is beautiful and his tree branch illustrations needs to hang on my wall.
You can see more of his work here, and make sure to be at Wolves this Friday to see his impressive work.
Louis Minnaar took a very different approach this time around, creating round posters for the latest batch of Bittereinder gigs.
As always it’s very impressive, and the Campus Invasion tour made a mistake by not giving him the job for their posters.
The next installment of Rebel Alliance and another great poster by Ben Rausch, again featuring cats.
This time round they are taking on a Sci-Fi theme with a music and film mash-up. Make sure to join in the fun at The Bioscope, by the sound of it the last few were epic.
Also check out the trailer for the event right here.
Rebel Alliance 4 Trailer from Ben Rausch on Vimeo.
Rock and Roll at it’s best, Rouleaux’s poster for Highway to Hell sets the tone for a night of mayhem.
In true Ram Jam style, DJ’s Chopper and Iron Leyden will keep you dancing all night, and Jack Daniel’s decided to join the party this time around so expect chaos.
The Cape Town International Tattoo Convention is rolling into town this weekend, and as always, they host some exciting gigs too.
Simon Berndt was the chosen man for the artwork, and we all know why. Make sure to get your skin under the needle this weekend and try not to ruin your fresh tattoo while moshing to The Great Apes or Shadowclub.
First post in quite a while, and yes, we had an awesome holiday thank you. Hope yours was just as fun.

Poster by Andrew Ringrose

It is this time of the year, and I have already “lost” a few posters in the mailbox, so for the next few weeks we will post as we have a few posters and let you know. Remember to click the poster to go to the facebook event. Would that be okay?
OK

A quick warning, Wednesday’s post will be massive. Never have we seen so many great posters for one weekend, how you are gonna be able to attend all of them is a different story all together.
For now please enjoy this weekday special.

Today we have something special to get you in the mood for Gil Hockman’s album launch tomorrow. Follow the link here for a free mp3 off the new album titled “Too Early In The Journey”

We would like to encourage more bands and artists to make beautiful posters for all kinds of events, be it gigs, film festivals or art exhibitions. It looks great on the dull walls of your city or our living room.
Something exciting happening, but without a great poster, is the Isochronous Inscape album launch tour starting in Pretoria this week. More about that here.
And onto the posters:

Poster by Farah Hernandez Martinez

Yes, we are running at normal speed again and we have a fine collection of posters for you this week.
We would like to wish Bittereinder a successful tour out in Holland, including the Lowlands Fest, and can’t wait to see what the new Sleepers sound like!
Be there when it happens!

I’m still a bit pissed off about not being at Oppikoppie this year and reading all the good and bad reviews on the blogs does not help.
Thanks to all the good reviewers for giving me some idea of what I missed this year.
No thanks to all the PR whores who are forced to mention (brand name here) 1000 times to pay for their tickets.

Poster by One Horse Town

After very long internet battles and other things I will not bore you with it seems that we are a go! again. At least you had the 10and5 Poster Picks and Chris’s Video Thursday posts to keep you entertained.
This is a slow start and after Oppikoppi it seems like everyone is resting and recovering. We hope those bruises are healing nicely.

Better late than never, even if it’s just a small post today. Cape Town weather got me in bed with the flu, and you know how men are when they have the flu (my sister calls it Man Flu).
Maybe we won’t see you at the gigs this week, but you don’t have an excuse.

Poster by Jaco Haasbroek

Quite a quiet week so far, so we will drop these two posters and give you some more on Wednesday. Clever work from Haasbroek once again. Hope you had a hectic weekend.

Poster by Jaco Haasbroek

You have been holding your breath, and it is time to inhale. School Nights are back, and what a comeback.
Depending on your city, you have a busy week ahead of you. Hope you have enough cash lying about. Come back on Wednesday for your weekend poster fix.

Poster by Jaco Haasbroek

Bittereinder have just announced that the video for Slechte Mensen will be launched at Arcade Empire on Friday night. You must have noticed Louis Minnaar‘s poster for the I Love P(each) Town gig in the previous post, and to celebrate the launch he made this cool poster.
Hope you like it.
By now you should have entered our competition for tickets to the Ashtray Electric album launch on Saturday and Discotheque on Friday, it’s gonna be huge.
We have a lot of talent in South Africa and today’s post just confirms that. Artists, bands and venues are working together to bring you some of the biggest and best lineups, and you end up having to choose, or just go to all of them in your city.
If you like what you see, be so kind and tell all your friends, post it on your Facebook wall or tweet about it. Promoting great art and great gigs will see our music scene thrive, and we all benefit from that.
See you at the gigs!

We hope you have entered the competitions in the previous two posts. We are doing this for you, you know.
Anyway, good to see Andrew Ringrose back in action after a short break and Freddy Sam brings back those childhood memories of Tipex on anything we could find including Space Cases, rulers and pictures of unicorns.
See you at the gigs!

Poster by James White
Was for sale at signalnoise.com but sold out already

We obviously have a serious poster addiction, but I do feel that we have a lack of posters on the walls and streets of our cities.
What is the point of having posters of this caliber made for the shows, when you can only see little jpg’s of it on your screen? Sure we can view them on our 30inch screens and set them as wallpapers, but ink on paper still looks better, especially in A2.
Have a great week and sorry about the rant.

First off, if Adam Hill decides to only change the colour scheme and details of an previous awesome poster (of the same artist at the same venue), we think it’s worthy of being posted again. Maybe you didn’t see it the first time around. Maybe you’ll go to the show this time.
Then there’s a whole new week ahead of you. Work hard.
